1.0 - The Beginning of Everything

1.0 - The Beginning of Everything

The initial need for the project was to create a game within 72 hours. I managed to implement the following ideas within this extremely limited time frame:

a) I started by creating a world where everything would take place. Since time was limited, I used an asset that made my life easier in terms of time. The pieces were coming together, which greatly facilitated the initial scene creation.

b) I needed at least one working monster. Since the game has a focus on a more calm, passive, and relaxing theme, I decided to choose a plant. It would have a long-range attack, as it would be easier for me to set up and handle the projectiles it would launch. Initially, the monster would only obstruct the main character, not causing any damage to their life, but rather causing them to drop what they were carrying.

c) Out of all the character models I have, the one that fit best was a female character, due to the chosen scene style and the goal I wanted to achieve for the game.

d) Initially, the main character could only feed her animals. So, I created enclosures for them around a house where she would live. I went to various points in the scene and added orchards and fruit-bearing trees. I scattered monsters to hinder the character in her goal of capturing the fruits and taking them home to feed the animals. The visual management aspect of the animals couldn't be completed in time; the only thing added was the animal's requirements in the form of items displayed above their heads. Upon receiving food, the requirement is removed, and an animation is executed. An "attempt" at animal movement and interaction was implemented.

e) At some points in the scene, I made the path more challenging by narrowing passages, adding stairs, narrow alleys, moving platforms, ramps, and changes in gravity. I also tried to vary the biomes to provide some differentiation and reduce visual fatigue. At the top of the scene, you find snow and ice; in the central part, it's more forest, land, grass, and liquid water; at the bottom, there's lava and rocks. Since the "world" is located in the absolute void, falling off the scene teleports you back home, causing you to lose what you were carrying, just like when you're hit by monsters.

f) I started developing a transportation system using train tracks. However, the wagon uses a plasma jet to move along the tracks, similar to the moving platforms that take you to the upper part of the planet. The system remains unfinished due to lack of time, but the character can already move around with it.

g) In the final stretch of my deadline, I added the game's theme music, attempted to implement the HUD, added some sounds for the scene and the character, applied some visual effects, made dozens of collision corrections, refined the movement system, cameras, gravity, animations, monster AI, the game's initial screen, shaders, lighting, and general adjustments to reduce bugs.

h) Then came functionality testing, during which I took screenshots of the game to be able to post them here.

Anyway... that's all that could be done within the available time. Now, I intend to improve the project with more mechanics and ideas that emerged during the implementation of all of this...

Big hug, see you!
